Maersk Survey: Majority of European Shippers See Disruptions through 2027

Survey overview and headline finding

A recent Maersk survey shows that a large majority of cargo owners in Europe expect supply chain disruption to persist. The headline result: four in five respondents said they anticipate such disruptions lasting at least another two years.

Size and scope of the survey

The results reflect feedback gathered from more than 900 companies across the region, providing a broad snapshot of how businesses are experiencing and planning for continued supply-chain volatility.

Expectations on duration and regulatory impact

Respondents were asked how long current tensions and policy changes will influence operations. More than 78% said geopolitical issues, trade tariffs and global regulations will continue to affect their businesses well into 2027.

Levels of concern among businesses

Nearly half of those surveyed — 48% — described themselves as deeply concerned about the geopolitical climate. Overall, four in five firms reported that ongoing supply-chain challenges are already holding back business growth.

How companies are diversifying sourcing

To reduce risk, many firms are spreading purchases across additional suppliers and regions. The survey found that three out of four companies are either buying from multiple regions now or plan to do so in the near term, a pronounced increase compared with last year.

Strengthening logistics and supplier relationships

Companies are also reinforcing partnerships further down the chain. Four out of five respondents said they are tightening ties with logistics providers and key suppliers to improve resilience and coordination.

Investments in visibility and operational flexibility

Firms are directing resources toward tools and processes that increase transparency and agility. Three out of five said they are investing in better visibility and more flexible operations to manage disruption more effectively.

Shifts to alternative trade routes

Changes to routing are another common response. According to the survey, three out of four companies reported they are shifting to alternative trade routes as part of their adaptation strategies.
